Red Dot Design Award ERD 220i lithium-ion electric pallet truck honoured with “Best of the Best” award
Jungheinrich’s new ERD 220i electric pallet truck has been awarded “Best of the Best” at the Red Dot Design Awards. The equipment, which is around 25 per cent smaller than its predecessor thanks to its new lithium-ion battery concept, won over the jury for its innovative design. Its compact configuration combined with advanced technology and the highest performance made it an exemplary pioneer in the pallet truck segment according to the jury.
Andreas Knie, industrial designer at Jungheinrich, says: “Good product design responds to concrete customer needs with appropriate solutions. In the ERD 220i, the most compact dimensions, intuitive operability, tangible agility and reliable safety are consistently combined. The operator has an ergonomically designed, versatile and safe seat, and the radically reduced dimensions also create more space and freedom of movement in the warehouse. ”
Instead of installing a large battery between the platform and the forks, as was the case in the past, Jungheinrich has accommodated the ERD 220i’s battery modules inside the pallet truck chassis. Removing the heavy battery tray offers significant benefits in terms of equipment performance. The space saved allows the pallet truck to be available in two options with spacious platforms, without significantly losing compactness or agility. Both platforms have fixed side protection panels on three sides and guarantee safe and comfortable driving. At the same time, the ERD 220i is the most compact pallet truck in its class, with an L2 dimension of just 1,065 mm. Thanks to these small dimensions, braking has been reduced to less than two metres. This allows precise manoeuvring even in narrow environments and frees up space for improved use in warehouses.
Every year since 1955, an international jury of independent designers, design professors and journalists has chosen the most innovative products from around the world in more than 50 categories.
